ThermoQuest Acquires HD Technologies

ThermoQuest Corp. (Austin, TX), a Thermo Electron (Waltham, MA) company, acquired HD Technologies Ltd. (Manchester, UK) for an undisclosed sum. HD Technologies will be integrated with ThermoQuest's MassLab division, also located in Manchester, and will continue to operate from its existing location.

HD Technologies develops mass spectrometry products, particularly those employing time-of-flight and novel ion-trap technologies, used for fast analysis in the clinical, forensic, environmental, flavor/fragrance, and petrochemical markets. Its patented systems permit time-of-flight instruments to be used for routine quantitative laboratory analysis in addition to the more common application of qualitative problem solving. Historically, HD has provided contract design and development services to leading instrument manufacturers in addition to developing its own product lines.

Dr. Richard W. K. Chapman, president and chief executive officer of ThermoQuest, commented, "Although this acquisition provides minimal revenues for the short term, the technologies H.D. brings are critical to broadening our product offerings. One system incorporating these technologies, Tempus, will be shown at the upcoming Pittcon exhibition."

ThermoQuest Corp. develops and distributes mass spectrometers, liquid chromatographs, gas chromatographs, and multi-instrument combinations of these products for the pharmaceutical, environmental, and industrial marketplaces.
