Thermo Vision Acquires Opticon Corporation

Thermo Vision Corp. has acquired the assets of Opticon Corp. (North Billerica, MA), a manufacturer of optical components for the scientific, analytical, and medical instrument markets. The purchase price was $2 million in cash, subject to a post-closing adjustment. Opticon's revenues were approximately $2.5 million in 1998.

Thermo Vision designs, manufactures, and markets a diverse array of photonics products, including optical components, imaging sensors and systems, lasers, optically based instruments, optoelectronics, and fiber optics.

The acquisition of Opticon provides the Company with a proprietary optical replication technology that enables it to efficiently produce and replicate high-quality reflective optical surfaces. Opticon's "product line complements our existing optical components products, which are sold into similar markets on an OEM basis," commented Kristine Stotz Langdon, president and CEO of Thermo Vision.
