Thermo Combines Elemental Analysis Equipment Businesses; Forms TJA Solutions
TJA Solutions is made up of three former Thermo Optek business units:
- Thermo Jarrell Ash (Franklin, MA) is a supplier of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) optical and mass spectrometers. The business' equipment is used for analyzing elemental species in liquids, solids, and gases.
- VG Elemental (Winsford, UK) is an inorganic mass spectrometry (MS) company. The unit develops a broad range of ICP-MS technologies, including quadrupole and high-resolution systems, alternate plasma gases, cool plasma operation, and advanced collision cell technology (CCT).
- Unicam (Cambridge, UK) designs, manufactures, and supports high-performance flame and furnace atomic absorption (AA) systems. In addition to improving the analytical capabilities of AA methods, the company also helped improve the reliability, productivity, and ease-of-use of the technology.
Unifying the three businesses was a logical move, according to Thermo Optek senior VP Fred Walder, since the company's products all complement each other. Now customers have a single source of supply for instrumentation across the entire technology spectrum. In addition, the consolidation will lead to improved customer support services, Walder said. TJA Solutions' expanded technical support organization will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The new company will serve a wide variety of industries, including environmental, metallurgy and mining, pharmaceutical, biotech, semiconductors, agriculture, food and beverage, chemicals and petrochemicals, and utilities.
TJA Solutions is a Thermo Electron company.
