Sybron Acquires Microgenics; Expands Drug Testing Businesses

Sybron International Corp. (Milwaukee) has acquired Microgenics Corp. (Pleasanton, CA), a manufacturer and seller of diagnostic reagents for use in drugs of abuse screening, therapeutic drug monitoring, thyroid function testing, and anemia testing.

Sybron plans to integrate its Diagnostic Reagents (Sunnyvale, CA) business into Microgenics later this year, creating a leading reagent provider with multiple homogeneous immunoassay technologies. As a result, Sybron will be able to offer a comprehensive menu of tests available for therapeutic drug monitoring, drugs of abuse screening, and thyroid function testing.

Microgenics will also continue its aggressive OEM strategy. Both Microgenics and the Sybron subsidiaries have OEM relationships with several major diagnostic companies worldwide.

To support continued rapid growth of its business, Microgenics will maintain its significant investment in R&D focused on developing products for drugs of abuse and immunosuppressive drug monitoring.
