SPSS 9.0 Ships In North America; World Delivery Scheduled For January 1999

SPSS 9.0 for Windows, a new version of the well-known data-analysis tool, is now being shipped in North America. Created by SPSS (Chicago), the product features enhanced graphical analysis capabilities, new statistics and new data-access functions. With these, researchers can simplify the acquisition and analysis of large amounts of data from numerous sources. SPSS 9.0 is expected to begin shipping internationally in January 1999.

Topping the list of new elements featured in SPSS 9.0 is a table-to-graph function that allows users to create pictures of their tabular data with a few mouse clicks. Instead of sifting through mountains of numbers to find important factors and relationships, analysts can create and review simple data graphs. Graphing is possible for both basic reports and advanced analytical techniques.

Unlike spreadsheets and other data-analysis programs that require users to work through multi-step wizards to create and perfect their graphs, users can make changes to SPSS 9.0 graphs on the fly. Tables that are switched to graphs can either include all data in the report or can be focused on a specific portion of the data. This enables users, especially those working with large amounts of data, to quickly pinpoint facts, patterns and trends that might otherwise be difficult to find.

Using the new release of SPSS for Windows, analysts can access more data sources than previously available. The addition of an ASCII Text Wizard to SPSS' set of data-acquisition tools gives users the ability to map ASCII data from data warehouses and Web databases. Other new SPSS 9.0 for Windows benefits include expanded data access and management, expanded graphical comparisons and more in-depth analyses.

By joining SPSS 9.0 with the recently announced SmartViewer Web Server from SPSS, organizations can have a comprehensive Report OLAP system with which they can acquire and analyze data, then distribute reports through the Web.

SPSS 9.0 requires Windows 9x or NT, 16MB of RAM, 60MB of disk space, and a math co-processor.
