Spectra Laboratories Expands West Coast Operations

Milpitas, CA - Spectra Laboratories, Inc., the leading provider of renal-specific laboratory services, announced recently that it is expanding its West Coast operations and relocating to Milpitas, Calif. to extend its integrated customer service, information systems and technology support capabilities as it continues to meet the growing demands of the external test market.

The new facility allows for Spectra Laboratories' customer service staff to be incorporated directly into the laboratory operations creating a tighter, more efficient link between the two departments and offering customers faster, real-time total solutions to their questions all under one roof.

The move from Fremont, Calif., which is expected to be complete by August 27, 2007, also provides a strategic opportunity for Spectra Laboratories to integrate new technology, further speed specimen processing results and increase internal laboratory communications. The approximately 94,000-square-foot space will house Spectra Laboratories' state-of-the-art West Coast laboratory and will be equipped to accommodate an increased number of clinical laboratory scientists and technicians in its laboratory testing and demonstration center.

"Our new Milpitas site helps solidify our place in the industry and offers us an opportunity to ramp up new business as we address the current and imminent dialysis testing needs of renal patients," said Nicholas R. Brownlee, president, Spectra Laboratories. "Spectra Laboratories is unique in that we present our customers with all the capabilities required to manage their testing needs. Through the hard work of our employees, the relocation to Milpitas augments our customer offerings and builds a stronger foundation for our future."

As part of the move, Spectra Laboratories has made an appreciable investment in the property and signed a long-term lease with iStar Financial, a commercial real estate financing company based in New York. The new facility marks an increase of more than 20,000 square feet over Spectra Laboratories' Fremont structure. The company currently has more than 345 employees.

"This expansion puts Spectra Laboratories in one of North America's major biotech and medical hubs and is a prime location for us to continue supporting our growing renal-care logistics network," said Curtis Johnson, vice president of operations and general manager, Spectra Laboratories. "During our transition, customers will not experience any interruption in their facilities' lab results. Spectra Laboratories is dedicated to continuing to provide health care professionals and renal patients with superior customer service."
