The DMC le Low-light Software, intended for use with the Digital Microscope Camera le (DMC le), offers increased exposure time of up to eight seconds, a separate color stacker application and remote capabilities. With the new software, the digital microscope camera allows the user to capture a variety of fluorescent/low-light images that usually require exposure times greater than one second. Using dark frame subtraction and multi-frame averaging, the DMC le reduces noise by averaging several light frames and dark frames and subtracting the average dark frame from the average light frame to produce the final image. With color stacker, a separate application included with the new software option, the user can combine up to three images into one. This technique is useful for sampling several different fluorochromes. In addition, the software allows the user to connect a hand trigger or foot pedal to the digital microscope camera, which allows flexibility and ease of use when capturing images remotely.
