Psychemedics Names New VP Of Lab Operations

Psychemedics Corp. (Cambridge, MA) has appointed Michael Schaffer as the company's new VP of laboratory operations. In this position, Schaffer will manage all of the company's lab operations and will help to develop the strategic plans for the company.

Schaffer has extensive experience in forensic toxicology and drug testing. Prior to joining Psychemedics, Schaffer served as director of toxicology at the SmithKline Beecham laboratory in Leesburg, FL, a position he held since 1990. Before this, Schaffer spent 14 years as the chief toxicologist for the Medical Examiner's Office in Cook County, IL. In addition to these responsibilities, he served as urine drug testing laboratory inspector for the U.S. Department of the Navy and the U.S. Department of the Army. He will continue to serve as a laboratory inspector for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Laboratory Certification Program, formerly the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

The author of numerous scientific publications, Schaffer has served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Forensic Pathology and the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Illinois. He also has served on the board of directors of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and the American Board of Forensic Toxicologists. Schaffer is Board certified in Forensic Toxicology.

Psychemedics Corp. is a provider of hair testing services for identifying drugs of abuse. The Psychemedics test is used to detect the use of illegal drugs during pre-employment screening.
