PITTCON 2001: Microwave Accelerated Solvent Extraction

Source: CEM Corporation
The MARS-X Microwave Extraction System extracts up to 14 samples in under 15 minutes
The MARS-X Microwave Extraction System extracts up to 14 samples in under 15 minutes. Over 500 microwave extractions can be performed with the same amount of solvent used for only 32 Soxhlet extractions, providing a cost-effective alternative to conventional methods. Thermo-Optic Temperature Control provides precise real-time temperature readings and feedback control for the extraction process. Sample stirring improves microwave extraction by increasing the surface contact area of the sample with the solvent to decrease extraction time, reduce solvent volume and improve recoveries. The system accommodates a range of sample sizes without requiring particle size reduction and performs microwave extraction without any change to your current solvent scheme. The MARS-X meets the requirements of USEPA Method 3546 and is ideal for the rapid extraction of semi-volatile organic compounds, organophosporus pesticides, organochlorine pesiticides, chlorinated herbicides, phenoxyacid herbicides, substituted phenols, PCBs and PCDDs/PCDFs from soils, sediments and sludges.
