PITTCON 2001: Infrared Microscope

The Centaurµs infrared (IR) microscope is the latest addition to the company's line of microsampling products. Designed to carry out routine, everyday IR microsampling, it offers high performance with simplicity for the polymer, pharmaceutical, forensic and microelectronic industries.

Utilizing a new and unique optical design from Thermo Spectra-Tech, the IR microscope makes collecting data easier. There is no need to switch from view to collect. The microscope provides a simultaneous view (Simul-View) of the sample area and the spectrum—saving time by determining the important sample points before collecting the data. The integrated, permanently aligned video camera delivers exceptional views of the sample image every time.

Slide-On, rugged attenuated total reflectance (ATR) crystals are user changeable in seconds and the 10X objective is pre-aligned; there is no need for time-consuming sample preparation. IR spectra from samples as small as 20 µm are efficiently collected, and the standard Contact Alert signals the optimum ATR pressure, which eliminates crystal damage.
