Part of an effort to streamline operations

PerkinElmer Instruments (Norwalk, CT), a division of PerkinElmer Inc., announced today that it is streamlining operations to reduce business complexity and increase efficiency of production processes. As part of the initiative, the company will close its Bodenseewerk plant, located in Uberlingen, Germany. Manufacturing will transfer to sites in Norwalk, CT; Singapore; and Llantrisant, Wales, UK.

PerkinElmer Instruments is targeting third quarter of 2001 for completion of the process. At the same time, the company is committed to working with the 150 people employed at the site to identify career opportunities both within and outside PerkinElmer.

"We are taking this action in order to strengthen and streamline our business. This will allow PerkinElmer to continue to invest in technologically advanced, high quality instrumentation for our customers," said Stephen P. DeFalco, president, PerkinElmer Instruments. He added, "We will work with each employee at the site to ensure a smooth and professional closure."

The PerkinElmer Bodenseewerk facility was established in 1954. It currently produces Atomic Absorption (AA) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) products, which are also produced at Singapore and Norwalk, respectively.

PerkinElmer Instruments is a $725 million business that employs approximately 3,000 people worldwide.
