PE Subsidiary Sells Environmental And Process Analysis Division To German Sensor System Manufacurer
Bodenseewerk Perkin-Elmer GmbH (Uberlingen, Germany), a subsidiary of the Perkin-Elmer Corp. (Norwalk, CT) has sold its Environmental and Process Analysis Division (UPA business) to SICK AG (Waldkirch, Germany), a manufacturer of sensor systems. The UPA business will continue as a wholly owned subsidiary of SICK, with about 50 employees assigned to SICK's Environmental Monitoring Division, which specializes in devices and systems for measuring dust and gas concentrations as well as gas flow rates. The business has been named SICK UPA GmbH.
The UPA business' single and multiple component analyzers and systems will supplement SICK's existing product portfolio. Not only will SICK be able to offer additional single and multiple component solutions for complex emission measurement problems, principally in the waste incineration and cement industries, but it will also be able to expand its range for process analysis (e.g., in the chemical industry). With this acquisition, SICK's Environmental Monitoring Division expects to achieve a distinct improvement, in the medium and long term, of its market position in the fields of environmental monitoring and process analysis.
Perkin-Elmer makes life science systems for use in the pharmaceutical, food, environmental testing, agriculture, biotechnology, and chemical manufacturing industries.
