PSS now offers a NEW Zeta Potential instrument for the field of colloidal chemistry. Zeta potential measurements have historically been effective in determining and predicting the aggregration and dispersion problems often encountered in the field of dispersed systems.

Particle Sizing Systems now offers the Nicomp 380/ZLS, a new zeta potential instrument for the field of colloidal chemistry. Using a collimated optical fiber attached to a precision stepper motor for repeatable angular control, the 380/ZLS can offer automatic low angle zeta potential measurements without the hassle of alignment. The precision fiber collects light between large area electrodes for a high signal to noise ratio measurement without the need to locate the stationary plane. This eliminates the tedious process of alignment between measurements that most zeta potential instruments require.

Precision stepper motor movement allows for reproducible low angle measurements (<15 deg.) to minimize the diffusion broadening in the Doppler-shifted peak of the power spectrum. This design also eliminates the need to align the heterodyne light source. The multi-angle stepper motor fiber combination allows for zeta and multi-angle DLS light scattering measurements to be made in the same instrument. A programmable DSP based autocorrelator allows for flexible configuration and channel width selection for both Zeta Potential and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) measurements. Using a custom digital signal processor, the correlator has software settable channels that allow users to automatically optimize the correlator configuration for complex particle size distributions as well as perform zeta potential measurements.

The electrode configuration and cell design allows for the use of disposable cuvettes for easy cleanup (precision glass cuvettes are optional).

The Nicomp 380/ZLS provides the ability to make a submicron particle size and a zeta potential measurement in the size range of 0.010 - 15 microns.
