Mitchell Glass Appointed Science Center Senior Vice President Of Science

Philadelphia, PA - The Science Center, the preeminent commercialization engine for life science and technology companies in the Mid-Atlantic, announces the promotion of Mitchell Glass, M.D. to Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Glass was previously the Director of Medical Affairs.

"Dr. Glass's expertise and vision have helped shape the Science Center to become the innovative venture ecosystem that it is today," said Dr. Pradip Banerjee, Science Center President and Chief Executive Officer. "Mitchell's expanded role as senior vice president will provide Science Center companies with critical know-how to commercialize discoveries with success and efficiency. Dr. Glass brings an enormous amount of management experience specific to the challenges of life science start-ups, which will benefit Science Center companies."

As Senior Vice President of Science and Technology & CSO, Dr. Glass will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and commercializing promising technologies. Additionally, he will work to grow the Science Center's $10 million Venture fund, which was established this year.

"We function as the Switzerland of the life sciences industry in our ability to assemble coalitions of scientists and researchers who share the objective of commercializing an idea in order to improve human health."

Prior to joining the Science Center, Dr. Glass was Chief Medical Officer for AtheroGenics, Inc. He also served as Vice President and Director of Cardiopulmonary Clinical Research, Development and Medical Affairs at SmithKline Beecham, where he supervised the company's development portfolio in cardiovascular, pulmonary metabolic and renal diseases until 1996. Prior to that, Dr. Glass developed the Pulmonary Therapeutics division of ICI Pharmaceuticals (which later became Zeneca) in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Glass was an Attending Physician in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia from 1985 to 1987. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1973 and his M.D. degree in 1977, both at the University of Chicago.
