M.A. Hanna To Develop Thermoplastics Through Dow License
Dow Plastics (Midland, MI), has expanded its product and market-application opportunities for Questra crystalline polymers by entering into a new licensing agreement with M.A. Hanna Engineered Materials (Horgen, Switzerland), a business unit of M.A. Hanna Co. Through this arrangement, M.A. Hanna Engineered Materials will develop new specialty thermoplastic compounds.
The agreement also includes a sublicense that allows M.A. Hanna's customers to sell articles containing Questra-based compounds anywhere in the world.
"M.A. Hanna will be able to offer this resin as a solution for customers needing crystalline technology," says Dick Sosville, Dow global business VP, engineering plastics. "As a global supplier, it was important to Dow that M.A. Hanna has the capability to serve customers not only in North America, but also through their engineered materials business unit in Europe."
Produced using metallocene catalysts, Questra polymers have a melting point of 270°Cthe highest melting point of any single monomer polymerization product. The materials with which Questra polymers compete range from nylons and polyesters to polyphenylsulfide (PPS), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), and liquid crystal polymers (LCPs). These are used in applications for the automotive, electrical/electronics, appliance, engineered films and medical markets.
