Acquisition Gives Kroll Second SAMHSA-Certified Lab
New Orleans - Kroll Laboratory Specialists, Inc., the substance abuse testing subsidiary of Kroll Inc., the global risk consulting company, announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Scientific Testing Laboratories, Inc. (STL), a privately-held SAMHSA laboratory in Richmond, Virginia. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
STL, which received its U.S. Department of Health & Human Services/SAMHSA certification in 1994, conducts alcohol and drug testing for corporations in numerous industries nationwide with a particularly strong market share in the criminal justice system. It was founded in 1992 by Thomas McGlynn, its president, and currently employs approximately 60 staff at its laboratory in Richmond.
"With the acquisition of STL, Kroll gains a second SAMSHA-certified laboratory and a cadre of similar customers. Besides providing operational redundancy and greater production capacity, the addition of STL's lab enables us to expand our service offerings to include oral fluid testing," said John Peterson, president of Kroll Laboratory Specialists.
STL staff will continue as employees of Kroll Laboratory Specialists. "STL is an extremely well-run operation with a top-notch staff," Peterson added. "We are pleased that its laboratory director, top sales people, and other key managers will continue in their current roles."
"This is a union of two great companies that benefit clients and employees alike," said STL's founder Tom McGlynn. "Our clients will continue to receive the highest level of service and our employees will gain the benefits of being employed by a major corporation while continuing to work in a small company environment."
