Kirkegaard & Perry Laboratories (KPL, Gaithersburg, MD) was founded in 1979 as the first company to commercialize affinity purified secondary antibodies, a valuable tool for biological research and in vitro diagnostic testing. Today, in addition to the secondary antibodies, KPL produces over 600 products for the life sciences and animal health markets.

KPL products are used in a variety of applications, including immunology, cell biology, molecular biology and protein chemistry. KPL supplies antibodies and substrates to diagnostic kit manufacturers and research laboratories, as well as to biotechnology, pharmaceutical and vaccine companies. The Company is also a leading manufacturer of USDA-licensed diagnostics kits for the poultry industry. Products are marketed through a national sales force and a worldwide network of distributors. Recently KPL expanded its worldwide presence with the appointment of a European General Manager, Mr. Brendan O'Dywer. His mission is to build relationships with our research and poultry diagnostics customers working in collaboration with our International Distribution network throughout Europe.

KPL pioneered the development of large-scale affinity purification of highly specific antibodies, a major factor in the successful application of ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) technology for the detection of infectious diseases. The Company's proprietary capability for producing substantial quantities of pure protein ensures consistent product performance over time.

Through our innovative technology and a highly respected research and technical support staff, KPL is recognized around the globe as a leader in the development, manufacture and application of a broad range of biological and immunochemical reagents. KPL's large-capacity production facility is USDA-audited with a comprehensive documentation system that assures adherence to the highest quality standards. KPL reagents can be found in a variety of commercially successful diagnostic kits for AIDS, tropical diseases, food poisoning and pregnancy testing and are frequently cited in the academic literature.
