BioXL/P is a hardware accelerator for homology searches. Users are said to be able to run full databases from memory, to internally store and stream most DN and protein databases, and to speed searches by reducing the need for data transfer across the SCSI interface. The product features 128 MB RAM, eight boards per box, and an internal hard disk.

The accelerator's algorithm, Frame+ models frame shifts and codon gaps independently and simultaneously. GenCore, the sequence-analysis software, allows modular construction of multi-stage search strategies through a combination of automated features. The multi-query capability enables submission of several queries simultaneously. The software is also said to automatically recognize and convert most popular database formats.
