Fisher Scientific Acquires Bayer Diagnostics Manufacturing Facility

Fisher Scientific Global Laboratory Products, a business unit of Fisher Scientific International Inc. (Hampton, NH), has acquired a manufacturing facility from Bayer Corp. (Pittsburgh). The facility, located in Middletown, VA, will significantly expand Fisher's capacity to manufacture diagnostics for clinical laboratories and biopharmaceutical customers.

As part of the transaction, Fisher Scientific will supply Bayer's Bayer Diagnostics (Tarrytown, NY) with diagnostic reagents for use in hematology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and other areas of medical testing and diagnosis. In addition, Fisher Scientific will continue to employ the 200 employees currently working at the Middletown site.

Bayer Corp. is a research-based company with major businesses in health care, life sciences, and chemicals. Bayer Diagnostics manufactures diagnostics systems for laboratory, critical care, point of care, and nucleic acid testing.

Fisher Scientific provides products, services, and e-commerce supply-chain solutions to research, healthcare, industrial, educational, and government customers.
