Engel Named President of EG&G Optoelectronics
EG&G Inc. (Wellesley, MA; 781-237-5100) named John Engel as president of its Optoelectronics Strategic Business Unit. Engel most recently served as vice president and general manager of Business and General Aviation, an AlliedSignal subsidiary. In March 1999, EG&G announced that it would purchase the Perkin-Elmer Analytical Instruments Division for $425 million.
EG&G Optoelectronics designs and manufactures light sources, detectors, and sensors that are used for entertainment, industrial, scientific, consumer, and medical applications. EG&G recently completed the $250 million acquisition of Lumen Technologies, a global specialty lighting company with products spanning cinema, projection, stage and studio, and medical uses.
Engel had been associated with AlliedSignal since 1994, serving since 1997 as vice president and general manager of Business and General Aviation. From 1996 to 1997, Engel was vice president of the Flight Controls Enterprise (Commercial Avionics Systems), a business whose products include radar, displays, and flight controls. From 1994 to 1995, he served as director of the Radar and Collision Avoidance Enterprise (Commercial Avionics Systems). Engel spent 10 years at General Electric prior to joining AlliedSignal.
