Eastman Chemical Opens Customer Solutions Center
According to Phillip Griswold, VP of Eastman's flexible plastics business, the multi-million dollar facility supports the growth of Eastman resins in the specialty packaging industry. "The Solutions Center demonstrates our commitment to work closely with customers to provide innovative and timely solutions for the market," Griswold says.
The Customer Solutions Center allows Eastman to duplicate customers' processing conditions so developers can assist them in troubleshooting manufacturing problems, as well as develop value-adding products. "We will work with our customers to reduce cycle time in bringing new products to market and to optimize their processes," Griswold adds.
The Customer Solutions Center targets using Eastman's specialty materials in the packaging industry, from new polymer development to new applications for current resins. The center employs a staff of 60 to identify customer needs and explore ways to customize polymers for applications in today's marketplace.
The facility also employs some sophisticated equipment. Eastman recently installed a 7-layer blown film line from Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering, which is used to examine the effects of catalyst or process changes on Eastman's high-performance resins and to analyze current products in a variety of applications. The company also acquired a Hayssen Vertical Form/Fill/Seal machine, which can produce pillow pouches, gussetted bags, or flat-bottom bags.
Eastman Chemical Co. manufactures and markets plastics, chemicals, and fibers. The company offers a broad portfolio of specialty polymers for high-performance films and coatings. These resins are primarily used in food packaging, hygienics, medical packaging, and industrial applications.
