Eastman Chemical Introduces New Resin For Packaging Applications

Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, TN) has introduced another new resin to its growing line of polyethylene-based film resins—Eastman Hifor Xtreme polymer. The new resin is expected to have a variety of packaging applications, including industrial packaging, food packaging, and heavy duty shipping.

According to Ed Smith, business market manager of industrial packaging in Eastman's flexible plastics business, Eastman Hifor Xtreme polymer features exceptional dart impact: "Initial runs at customers have shown the dart impact properties of this material outperform competitive materials while using 25% less product. The ability to downgauge with this material due to its stiffness, dart impact, and balance of properties is very real."

The polymer will be available in a variety of formulas, featuring densities of 0.917 and 0.926. Melt indexes for the formulas range from 0.5–0.85.

Other film polymers recently introduced by Eastman include Mxsten CV plastomers, Eastman Hifor Clear polymers, Mxsten CM extra low-density polyethylenes, and Eastman Hifor polymers.

Eastman manufactures and markets plastics, chemicals, and fibers.
