Dupont And Ormecon Chemie To Collaborate In Organic Metal Technology

Dr. Che Hsu, head of DuPont's research department, recently unveiled the Company's plans to introduce two new high tech polymers, one of which will be an antistatic, Kevlar fiber containing Ormecon Chemie's patented Organic Metal, with highly tensile and flame resistant properties. After pilot scale development, selected customers are currently evaluating the fiber.

Since its inception in 1996, Ormecon has introduced a variety of new products to the market, based on its patented Organic Metal technology. The acquisition of Monsanto Inc. and Allied Signal's conductive polymer patents in April of this year has given the Montpellier, France-based Company a powerful position in the organic metal market.

Ormecon's cooperation with DuPont will play a significant part in its expansion plans, explains Dr. Bernhard Wessling, a managing partner and senior scientist with the company. "DuPont wants to rely on Ormecon's technology and patents in order to realize its internal plans, while Ormecon intends to benefit from DuPont's chemical manufacturing know-how and world-wide market presence for faster and broader product marketing," he says.
