Consulting Firm Sells EA Laboratories Division To Severn Trent Laboratories

EA Engineering, Science and Technology Inc. (Hunt Valley, MD), an international consulting firm, has completed the sale of its EA Laboratories division to Severn Trent Laboratories Inc. (STL; Coventry, UK). EA has also entered into a partnering arrangement with STL on future analytical laboratory needs, gaining access to STL's expansive national lab network.

Barbara Posner, EA's COO and CFO, estimates that net proceeds from the transaction will increase EA's earnings in the third quarter by $0.01 to $0.02 per share. The deal will also relieve EA of the fixed overhead associated with the lab, and allows them to focus more on their core consulting business. In addition, Posner expects the transaction to provide more stability of company revenues and income. And since the partnership grants EA access to STL's national laboratory network, EA will be able to cross-sell these analytical services to their expansive client roster.

Rachel Brydon Jannetta, president of STL, said that her company will benefit by having its name linked to EA, which has a strong reputation as a technical leader. Jannetta also believes that EA's long term relationship with various U.S. federal agencies will enable STL to more effectively compete for Department of Defense and Department of Energy contracts.
