Chevron Chemical President To Retire

John Peppercorn, president of Chevron Chemical Co., will retire at the end of January after 38 years of service for the Chevron Corporation. He began his career with Gulf Oil in 1961 as a field sales representative and held a number of positions of increasing responsibility prior to the Chevron/Gulf merger in 1984. In 1985, he was named vice president and general manager for Chevron Chemical's Aromatics Division. He was named president of Chevron Chemical Co. in 1989.

He will be succeeded by Chevron Chemical's senior vice president, Darry Callahan. Callahan has been with Chevron since 1964, when he began his career as a research engineer at Chevron Research Co. After several years in advisory positions in the company's foreign operations area, he was elected president of Chevron Oil Bahamas Ltd. in 1980. Two years later, he was named manager of pricing and evaluation for Chevron USA's marketing department. In 1983, he became manager of commercial and industrial products, and was named general manager of marketing operations in 1985. In 1987 he was elected president of Warren Petroleum Co., and in 1991 he was named senior vice president of Chevron Chemical Co.
