CBVP-P/CBVP-I Surface Tensiometers

Source: Tantec Inc.
The proven instrument for measuring surface tension quickly (15-30sec.)
Tantec CBVP-Series of Tensiometers

The proven instrument for measuring surface tension quickly (15-30sec.). Ideal for checking liquids, including oils, detergents, serums, colloidal suspension, chemicals, and other products.

Featuring:

  • Rapid Measurement:
Ring method allows readings to be made in 15-30 seconds. (Ideal for colloidal suspensions, which exhibit rapid changes in surface tension.)
  • Direct Reading: Circular scale is graduated in dynes/cm, eliminating the need for mathematical calculations.
  • Reproducible Results: Improved technique allows accurate readings to be reproduced within +/-0.05 dyne/cm.
  • Portability: Compact unit comes with a carrying case for easy transport.
  • Stability: Unit is mounted on a cast tripod support with convenient leveling screws.
TANTEC's CBVP-Series of Tensiometers are Available in Two Models

TANTEC CBVP-P Precision Tensiometer (upward direction)
This model tensiometer provides precise readings of upward interfacial and surface tensions by the ring method to values reproducible within +/-0.05 dynes/cm. This instrument is specified for determining interfacial tension of oil against water by the ring method in ASTM Method D971 and solutions of surface-active agents in ASTM Method C1331. It is also specified for testing synthetic rubber lattices in ASTM Method D1417 and determining the surface tension of industrial water and industrial wastewater in ASTM Method D1590.

    TANTEC CBVP-I Tensiometer (dual direction)
Where the Precision Tensiometer measures only the upward pull on the ring, the Interfacial Tensiometer is designed to measure both upward and downward forces on the ring. Graduated dial reads in both directions from zero and a double venire is provided. The two scales and corresponding verniers have graduations and figures of different colors to indicate whether the measured force is upward or downward.
Both instruments can be quickly adjusted and calibrated. They are supplied completely assembled and are furnished with three extra torsion wires and a 6-cm platinum-iridium ring.

Applications of Surface and Interfacial Tension
Surface and interfacial tension measurements are extremely inportant in the control and improvement of:

    • absorption
    • cataphoresis
    • condensation
    • emulsification
    • evaporation miscibility
    • osmotic pressure
    • solubility

Industries using printing inks, cutting fluids, producing detergents, clarifying liquids, or separating ores by the flotation process can obtain greater uniformity and efficiency through close control of surface tension of the process liquid. Inks, coatings and laminates can be properly formulated for optimal release characteristics. A close relation-ship exists between interfacial tensions of oil-liquid systems and the lubricating value of the oil. Another major use is determining the sludging condition within a transformer, thereby eliminating costly repairs.
