Binding Site Sponsors Informative Webinar To Provide In-Depth Overview Of Primary Immune Deficiency Disorders (PID) And Laboratory Testing For PID

Yorba Linda, CA (PRWEB) - Primary immune deficiencies (PIDs), otherwise known as inborn errors of immunity, are a group of disorders in which a portion of the immune system is missing or is not functioning properly. PIDs result in enhanced susceptibility to infection, often with organisms of low pathogenicity. Additionally, PIDs increase susceptibility to autoimmunity and malignancy. While severe presentations of PID are more readily recognized and referred to tertiary centers for follow up and treatment, more subtle manifestations of PIDs may go unrecognized and untreated.

During this presentation, Dr. Vijaya Knight, MD, PhD, (D)ABMLI will discuss the basic components of the immune system, when to suspect primary immune deficiency and the laboratory workup when immune deficiency is suspected. Knight will further elaborate on phenotypic and functional immunological analysis for specific immune disorders.

Dr. Knight headed the Advanced Diagnostic Immunology and Flow Cytometry laboratories at National Jewish Health from 2008-2018 and was an Assoc. Professor in the Department of Medicine. In June of 2018, she joined the Dept. of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital, Colorado where she is developing a translational and diagnostic immunology and allergy laboratory. Dr. Knight has been involved for many years in the development of new diagnostic assays for patients with immune deficiency and autoimmune conditions, as well as the development of immune monitoring tools for clinical trials.
