COVINGTON, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Allpax Products, a division of Pro Mach and the market leader in retort technology and retort room automation, introduces a research and development retort capable of producing seven different sterilization processes and four different modes of agitation, making this new modular system the world's most versatile laboratory retort. The new system will be on display at Process Expo 08 in Chicago at McCormick Center, November 9-13 in the Allpax Process Expo Booth W-17084.

The new 2402-FLEX research and development retort can be ordered with one or more of the following sterilization processes: Saturated steam, steam air, water spray, full immersion, water cascade, partial immersion, and sterilamatic simulation. As a compliment to static processes, customers who want agitation capabilities may order one or more of the following: Axial rotation, end over end, gentle motion reciprocating, and Shaka™ reciprocating.

"A single 2402-FLEX retort can be used to evaluate containers and/or ingredients across a comprehensive range of sterilization combinations — including both processes and modes of agitation," said Greg Jacob, Allpax general manager. "This lowers capital costs because the lab purchases one retort for all of its needs, not multiple units. At the same time, owners of the 2402-FLEX can quickly and cost effectively research and develop a wider range of solutions than otherwise would be possible or practical, thus gaining a competitive advantage."

Key features and benefits
The 2402-FLEX comes standard with Allpax operator interface and host software packages, which are the same software packages used with production retorts. This means the organization gains a unified operating environment for retorts from lab to production. Allpax software is 21 CFR Part II compliant for recipe editing, batch logs, and security functions. Because it was designed to fit through standard doorways, the 2402-FLEX can be easily rolled from lab to lab. Ease in portability means these units can even be taken to production areas and customer facilities for on-the-spot testing, development, and trouble shooting.

The onboard HMI makes switching between sterilization processes fast and easy. Going from one agitation mode to another is a straightforward physical process requiring "change" parts that are included with the each customer's order. In addition to outright purchase, Allpax offers rental and lease/purchase options for its entire line of 24-inch-diameter retorts, including the 2402-FLEX. The Allpax pilot plant is also equipped with a 2402-Flex for customers who want to run preliminary tests prior to purchase. In order to accommodate customers who have fast-track projects, Allpax has an inventory of all 2402-FLEX configurations on hand for immediate delivery.
