Akzo To Market Landec's Intelimer HPM Products In Europe

Akzo Nobel Chemicals has agreed to market Landec Corp.'s Intelimer High Performance Materials line of catalyst products to the European market. Akzo Nobel will target the European automotive, aerospace, construction and rail car manufacturing industries with the Landec products, which are used to catalyze thermoset systems used in coatings, sealants, adhesives, pre-pregs and other fiber reinforced composites.

"Akzo Nobel's presence in key industries, such as transportation, dovetails nicely with our recent introduction of Aeromark 80, a new formulated product used in product prototyping and part design in Europe that is being targeted to the European transportation industry," explained Guy Stokes, vice president of commercial development for Landec.

Landec Corp.'s temperature-activated polymer products are based on its proprietary Intelimer polymers, which differ from other polymers in that they can be customized to abruptly change their physical characteristics when heated or cooled through a pre-set temperature switch.

Hans Juergen Saeger, business manager for Thermoset Chemicals Europe, sees the range of 'intelligent' accelerators developed by Landec as an "excellent fit" with Akzo Nobel's range of thermoset curing agents. "These products give us the possibility to offer our customers highly optimized cure systems in many applications of unsaturated polyester and vinylester resins in combination with our wide range of peroxides," he said.
