AJA International was established in 1989 in North Scituate, MA by William Hale as the US distributor for several European sputtering and microwave plasma equipment manufacturers including Sairem, a premier European manufacturer of switch mode microwave power supplies and components. It soon became apparent that there was also a significant demand for a new line of UHV sputtering products and microwave plasma reactors unavailable in the world market at the time.
