Government Executive Event Focuses On Technology Challenges, Technology Solutions

This week in Washington, DC, SAS Institute Inc. (Cary, NC), a data warehousing and decision support providor, hosted a federal government executive event, "Best Practices Approach to Government Technology Solutions." The event showcased successful technology solutions and their implementations in the government sector in order to raise awareness of the specific technology challenges facing federal business today.

Jim Goodnight, SAS Institute's president and CEO, highlighted different ways that SAS software solutions are currently being implemented and successfully leveraged within the government. Goodnight also presented the DM Review World Class Solution Award to Scott Optenberg, chief of the analysis branch of the U.S. Army Center for Healthcare & Educational Studies, for excellence in business intelligence and data warehousing implementation.

Timothy Clark, president and editor of Government Executive, also spoke on some of the major technology challenges faced by the federal government, based on his publication's research. An number of government executives also spoke on topics that affect the federal community and provided advice on moving from visionary insights to delivering a valid technology solution.

The event concluded with an applications showcase, where the executives toured a number of successfully implemented government business solutions based on SAS software. Fellow government managers and personnel presented and demonstrated these applications—which ranged from data warehousing to Web applications. The event was designed to provide government executives with an avenue for sharing information regarding technology issues and for better understanding how to implement present and future decision-support platforms.
