Real-Time Drug Monitoring System

BioMerieux Vitek Inc. links the VITEC automated microbiology instrument system with the pharmacy's information system and hospital network. This data management system allows pharmacists to connect with the hospital's central database from remote locations through existing network systems. An alarm system helps users of this system to troubleshoot and catch clinical inconsistencies that could result in inappropriate treatment. The alarm feature can be programmed to generate instant messages via pager, fax, or e-mail. They can be customized by the user to issue alerts about target drug utilization or unique clinical situations, such as MRSA or VRE.
