Designed to facilitate easy communication between the company's electronic balances and popular PDA devices, PalmTalk allows users to download data directly from a balance to their PDA devices through most RS232 connections. PalmTalk represents a major breakthrough in portable laboratory technology, as it allows users to track and store laboratory data electronically without having a dedicated PC for every balance in the lab.

Users will, in fact, be able "beam" data to one another using the Infrared feature on their PDA devices. In addition, data stored in a user's PDA can be uploaded into spreadsheets on a PC using the HotSync feature. The software will include a parsing feature, which will automatically separate data into user specified categories before the HotSync operation, making it compatible with formatting characteristics of Microsoft Excel and other popular spreadsheet applications.

The software also allows users to do more than just track and store data – it also provides access to balance features through the PDA. For example, users will be able to change weighing units or calibrate a balance by following simple user prompts on the PDA device itself. The product will be compatible with all Ohaus electronic balances with RS232 capability.
