MICROCAL, LLC

Source: MicroCal, LLC
For over twenty years MicroCal, has been developing innovations in microcalorimeters for biological research. Calorimetry is a universal detection system as heat is either generated or absorbed in any chemical process. MicroCal's VP-Isothermal Titration (ITC) and VP-Differential Scanning (DSC) microcalorimeter systems represent major advances in sensitivity, reproducibility, stability and ease of use. These instruments can detect the smallest change in heat in molecules in their native state without chemical modification. Our platforms incorporate user-friendly software including Origin® and VPViewer®. These programs completely automate system operation, data collection, mathematical analysis and the presentation of results as publication quality graphics.

Recently, MicroCal pioneered the technique of Pressure Perturbation Calorimetry (PPC) whereby the volumetric and solvation parameters of proteins and macromolecules can be measured as a function of pressure and temperature.

Typical application areas for ITC (Isothermal Titration Calorimetry) include:

  • Molecular Interactions
  • Antibody Quality Control and Characterization
  • Drug Discovery
  • Enzyme Kinetics

Typical application areas for DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) include:

  • Protein Formulation Stability
  • Domain Structure
  • Half-life Determination of Low Molecular Weight Compounds
  • Membrane and Lipid Studies
  • Polynucleotide Studies
