These standard stock lengths are cut by a special machine which not only cuts, but also polishes each end. We deburr all edges and holes (inside and out). Then we passivate and clean the tubing. After these processes, we flow reagent-grade methanol through each piece of tubing.
Five and 25-foot lengths are also available for those able to cut their own tubing. After cutting, we suggest you make sure the edges are smooth (a rough edge on tubing could damage a port and cause leaks), then passivate. Passivation can be accomplished by soaking the tubing overnight in 30 percent nitric acid (by volume). Afterwards soak for 30-60 minutes in water; then thoroughly flush the tubing ID with distilled water until the pH of the fluid passing through is neutral (near pH 7). As a final step, flush with reagent grade methanol. For a more detailed description of an industry-accepted cold passivation process, please reference method number AMS-QQ-P-35.
