On June 10, SPSS Inc. (Chicago), a business intelligence company, will present a free seminar, "Maximizing Customer Value Through Data Mining." The seminar will feature insight from internationally recognized data mining expert Herb Edelstein, president of Two Crows Corp. (Potomac, MD), and Alan Montgomery, VP of business development at SPSS and founder of the former Integral Solutions Ltd. (ISL). The seminar is geared toward executives who are interested in transforming customer data into information that can be used to increase revenue and market share, as well as reduce costs. The three-hour program will be held in Chicago at the Gleacher Center (450 N. Cityfront Plaza Dr.). There will be two sessions—one at 8:30 a.m. and one at 12:30 p.m.

Data mining plays an important part in the success of many of today's businesses by helping to identify the hidden patterns in customer data that can improve customer relations, increase revenues, and reduce costs. Once uncovered, this knowledge enables companies to leverage their information and experience to make more accurate predictions and better decisions.

Edelstein is an internationally recognized expert in data mining, data warehousing, and client-server computing, consulting to both computer vendors and users. A founder of The Data Warehousing Institute (Gaithersburg, MD), he is also a widely published author and has co-edited two books on data warehousing. Edelstein has served as a founding partner of Euclid Associates, a consulting firm specializing in data warehousing and data management; a vice president of marketing and sales at Sybase (Emeryville, CA); and vice president of marketing and sales at International Database Systems.

Montgomery was the founder and CEO of ISL and ISL Decision Systems Inc. ISL was acquired by SPSS Inc. in December 1998. Under his leadership, ISL emerged as the leading vendor of interactive data mining systems. A Fellow of the British Computer Society, Montgomery is on the industrial college of the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and is currently serving as VP of business development at SPSS Inc., specializing in data mining.

All attendees of the morning and afternoon sessions will be provided a continental breakfast or lunch buffet, and will receive a free copy of Data Mining with Confidence, a new book from SPSS Inc.
